Stolen Bike Log - May 2012

As we're only getting started, we're including bikes that may have been stolen in the weeks coming up to May. Try and give us as much information on the bike as you can. Does it have mudguards, cleats etc etc. Someone might spot it.

Also make sure you report it to the Gardai. You may not get it back, but it's important that these thefts are recorded.

We've also added the forms you need to register your bike with Donnybrook or Irishtown GardaĆ. They're trialing a scheme where you can register your details with them, so if your bike is found, they can get it back to you. You can email the forms in, so it will only take a few minutes but could save you a lot of money. They're in the section below this.

How 'Stolen Bike Log' works.

We aim to have two 'live' maps going at any one time.

The first will be a map for the current month. It will feature placemarks showing where and when bikes have been taken from along with details of the bikes themselves.

The second map will feature all of the bikes that have their details sent into us. This map should show most of the 'hotspots' in Dublin City & suburbs that bikes are being taken from. Once this map starts showing some real detail we should be able to have a list of hotspots which we will email out to you every month.

Apart from people getting to see where the problem areas are in the city centre, we also hope that we will be able to see residential areas where thieves are operating. For example if we see numerous bikes being stolen from gardens over a few days or a week in Stillorgan, people can mention it to their family or neighbors.

All suggestions are welcome so please comment below or email StolenBikeLog@gmail.com with any ideas you might have. We're also on twitter, @StolenBikeLog. Donnybrook Gardai Bicycle Registration Scheme Garda Bicycle Registration Form

Demo Map. Have a look at the placemark at the top of Grafton Street for an idea of the kind of information we think is useful.
